Our story
Hi, we're Books.
We started Books to Scrape because we believe the best way to learn something is to get your hands a little dirty. Back in 2014, a few curious coders and book lovers got together and thought: "what if there was a bookstore that wanted to be scraped?"
So we built one. A thousand books, fifty categories, every page a tiny puzzle. No logins, no paywalls, no grumpy emails — just a friendly little shop that says "go ahead, take a look around."
Today, we're a tiny team of readers, tinkerers, and quiet enthusiasts who keep the shelves stocked and the prices delightfully random. Welcome in.
What we believe
Four small beliefs we hold close.
The little ideas that keep us building, scraping, and stacking books on every surface we own.
01
Books are for everyone
No gatekeeping, no jargon, no "have you read the classics?" guilt. Pick what makes you happy.
02
Curiosity beats perfection
A messy first scrape teaches more than a polished tutorial. We celebrate the wonky attempts.
03
Community over competition
Share your code, swap your favorite finds, and cheer on the person who just wrote their first loop.
04
Slow reading is okay
Three pages a night still counts. We believe in books that fit your life, not the other way around.
Meet the team
The humans behind the shelves.
A small, slightly chaotic crew of readers and coders. Say hi anytime.
Maya Okafor
Founder & Chief Bookworm
Started the shop with a laptop and a stack of library sale finds. Still has both.
Theo Lindqvist
Head of Scraping
Writes the friendliest error messages in the business. Will cheer for your first loop.
Priya Shah
Curator of Cozy Reads
Believes every problem can be solved with tea, a blanket, and a good chapter.
Jules Beaumont
Designer
Responsible for the calm, simple look of this site. Their desk is a quiet place.
Plus one shop cat named Bramble.
Officially in charge of morale. Unofficially in charge of knocking things off shelves.
Thanks for stopping by.
Now go read something.
Browse the shelves, scrape a page, send us your favorite find. We'd love to hear what you're reading.
Stay curious. Stay kind. Read the weird stuff.
